Ethanol Blend Increase Bad For Boat Motors

Fellow anglers, we have a serious problem on the horizon. The government is thinking of upping the ethanol blend percentage in our gallon of gas.

What this mean is the ethanol manufacturers have petitioned the federal government for permission to begin selling gasoline up to 15 percent ethanol.

Back in 1978 when it was approved 10 percent ethanol mixtures the EPA did not hear any complaints at that time and it just happened; they figured that no one cared.

This time the marine manufacturers are very worried about this potential impact on outboard engines.

What Does This Mean To A Boat Owner:

The Outboard Manufacturers' warranty allows their boat motors to be operated using up to a 10 percent ethanol gasoline blend.

If a boater puts ethanol 15 percent in his motor and the E15 somehow causes a problem and breakdown, it could very well be that the warranty covering your boat motor is void due to using the E15 blend.

Ethanol 10 Percent Blend Increases Boat Motor Temperatures and Pollution Emissions

Ethanol 10 percent has been studied and found out that it makes your motor run hotter and releases pollutants in emissions. This would hit on the Clean Air Act, not to mention that this will effect over 18 million boat owners and it just might be a battle that you will never win if something happens to your engine while trying to burn E15 and asking that the outboard company fix your motor.

The deadline for public comments to not allow the fuel ethanol mixtures to increase by 15 percent ended May 21, but it is still your duty to let our government know that you do not agree on this matter.

Let The EPA Know You Are Not Happy With Their Decision To Allow Your Expensive Boat Motors To Be Damaged By The Increase In The Ethanol Blend Percentage

Go to website www.nmma.org which will allow users to send prepared oppositions e-mails directly to the EPA.

If we do not, there is liable to be a lot of boats sitting in the yard with engines burnt up or power heads gone and no warranty to cover the damage.

Let Your Senators and Congress Representatives Know Right Away Too - Many Are Boat Owners Themselves

Demand they halt the EPA's planned 50% increase in the ethanol percentage allowed to be blended with gasoline.

Also let your Senators and Congress Representatives know in your email that you do not mind voting them out of office if this Ethanol blend percentage increase is allowed to go forward.
